Visitors from Italy
8th October 2019
In September, the Cicely Saunders Institute welcomed two nurses from Italy who are studying for their Masters degree in Palliative Care at the University of Parma.
Chiara Serri obtained her degree in nursing from the University of Moden and Reggio Emilia. She is working in care homes and community settings and has a special interest in research in advanced decision-making in dementia.
Tosca Laieta has a degree in Nursing from University of Milan Bicocca and started the masters in palliative care at the University of Parma earlier this year. She works in the community (equivalent to UK’s primary care setting).
Their visit to the Institute included clinical placements for a day on the wards with the clinical team at King’s College Hospital and meetings with researchers to discuss the Institute’s research and education programmes.
Both nurses were interested to discuss how palliative care puts patients and their families at the centre, surrounded by a multiprofessional team, and how the palliative care approach adapts to different cultural and geographic settings.
