Patient and Public Involvement at the Cicely Saunders Institute

19th March 2021

In February 2021, the Cicely Saunders Institute finalised their second PPI strategy. The strategy outlines principles, ambitions and goals for the next three years. The goals will inform the work of the PPI Executive Group over this period.

Following evaluation of the first PPI strategy, the Strategy Development Group (made up of CSI staff and public members) led a series of activities to develop the new strategy. This included a workshop with public members and another with CSI staff, both served to draft the principles, ambitions and goals. A third joint workshop was then held with staff and public members to co-produce the strategy by reviewing, discussing and refining the goals and actions outlined. Throughout this process, the Strategy Development Group met to discuss and review and draft the strategy. The final draft was approved by the Palliative Care Clinical Academic Group in February 2021.

The final co-produced goals centre around: diversity and inclusion, support and learning, engagement, evaluation and promotion and the building of capacity. A common thread throughout these goals is the aspiration to build links, this includes with new PPI members, clinical colleagues, other executive groups, organisations and PPI networks. Enhancement of these links will both expand learning and increase impact of the work of the institute.
