Dementia in care homes
Researchers at the Cicely Saunders Institute have published research about dementia in care homes. The research examines how a measure can be used for routine care of people in care homes. The measure is the Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale for Dementia (IPOS-Dem). Researchers carried out a mixed methods study. They wanted to evaluate how this measure supports assessment and helps to manage distressing symptoms and concerns.
The research shows how the measure works and how it is implemented. The team found that routine use of a measure supports comprehensive assessment. It facilitates systematic record-keeping and monitoring. It also supports integrated working between professionals.
Researchers concluded that IPOS-Dem was acceptable and is feasible for use in routine care.
