Not the best photograph in the world I know, but it is the corner of my desk, where I spend too much time every day! A bright little lamp illuminating the day-to-day tasks of a parish priest.

Perhaps, unsurprisingly, the images on my desk and on the wall sum up much of my pilgrimage – the Risen Lord – the Cross – Justice and Peace.

I first met Cicely Saunders some forty-four years ago when she came to speak to what was rather grandly known as 'the medical sixth' at my school. I was deeply moved by what I'd heard and asked for a job, which resulted in two of the happiest years of my life and I'm still putting into practice the wonderful lessons I learned!
