This lamp illuminates my prayer hut which is at the bottom of the garden in our retirement home near Salisbury, it is essential in the dark winter mornings. At the bottom of the picture are my prayer books and some devotional reading.
Near the top is a Polish crucifix which I bought when Cicely and I went to Krakow to visit the hospice there and also a newly born great grandchild on her husband’s side. It is a simple hand carved crucifix from somewhere in rural Poland which somehow speaks of that country with which Cicely had a special affinity.
She asked to see me when she was dying and also asked me to conduct her funeral service which was very much an intimate staff and family occasion.
It is here in this hut that I remember again to commend Cicely into the light of God's love and care, as well as to give thanks for her life, work and friendship.
