Mary Baines

This light was known to Cicely, who often came to have supper in our home and chat afterwards, more often about theology than medicine.

Having been a medical student with her, she invited me to join her on the staff of St Christopher's and, very fearfully, I did so in 1968.

For the first two years St Christopher's was only for inpatients but, in 1969, Cicely told Barbara McNulty and me to start the Home Care service, the first of its kind.

From such a small beginning, I have been privileged to see Cicely's vision develop in to a worldwide movement affecting the life and death of millions.
